• Lift your truck safely, depending on what lift method you are using, loosening the wheel’s lug nuts before you raise it.
• Support your truck’s frame with jack stands.
• Slightly raise the axle with a jack so that it is bearing a moderate amount of weight; take the tire off.
• Ensure that the axle has adequate support from the jack.
• Remove the shock absorbers from the axle, and take the fasteners off of the sway bar. Remove the sway bar.
• Using a spring compressor, secure the spring in place snugly. Lower the axle down, but don’t let it fall off the jack.
• Put coil spacer on top of the spring. Raise the jack back up until your spring and spacer addition is in the right place in the axle and frame. Once this is completed, re-attach the spring coil retainers.
• Reassemble by following the reverse order.

Drum brakes can last a fairly long time if they are properly maintained. To adjust your rear drum brakes on your Chevy Silverado, take the following steps:
• Lift the rear end of your truck with a jack, using all the necessary safety precautions.
• Remove both of the rear tires.
• Remove the access cover to the back of the drum brake.
• Turn the adjuster (it’s star-shaped) until the pads hit the drum. Go back one click.
• It should spin easily. If it is dragging too much, loosen the adjustment slightly.
• Repeat on the other side and replace the wheels.
To find the colour code for your Chevy Silverado, look for the white service parts identification sticker. In the Chevy Silverado, this could be located in a number of different places, including in the glove box or the driver door jamb. It will list BC/CC, which stands for "basecoat, clear coat," followed by other letters and numbers that will tell you the right colour.
