Introducing The New 2022 GMC Sierra

Introducing The New 2022 GMC Sierra

The GMC Sierra is a workhorse of a half-ton pickup, combining high-end powertrains with unmatched interior comfort wrapped into a ruggedly impressive exterior design. And for 2022, GMC has upped the ante with two new trims that further increase the lineup's desirability.

The Denali Ultimate takes the deluxe Denali trim and boosts it to even greater levels of luxury. At the same time, the AT4X adds an extra dimension of off-road capability to the powerful ATX trim, making it one of the toughest trail-ready trucks available today.

Full Lineup Redesign for 2022

The entire Sierra lineup has received a major redesign for the 2022 model year alongside the new trims. The exterior has been given a facelift, particularly at the front end, which is now bigger, chunkier, and more striking than ever before. Though, it's the interior that the biggest changes have been made, with an entirely new range of technology and high-end features adopted throughout.

Interior and Infotainment

The Sierra's interior has been designed with comfort and control in mind, using high-quality materials and a convenient layout that puts all functions within easy reach. Essential driving information is displayed on a 12.3" digital instrument cluster that is available on all, except the entry-level trim. Similarly, most models boast a 13.4" touchscreen complete with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay including wireless device charging, in-built navigation, and available premium Bose audio system for high-fidelity sounds on the move.

Choice of Sierra Powertrains

The 2022 Sierra lineup offers a powertrain for every task, with four main engine choices available. The Sierra is powered by a 2.7L four-cylinder gas engine at the base level, making a healthy 310 horsepower and 420lb-ft of torque. As standard, the output is delivered to rear-wheel drive via an eight-speed automatic transmission, with all-wheel drive an available option.

But if you're looking for a little extra in the power department, two V8 gas engines are on offer, both paired with an upgraded 10-speed automatic transmission. A 5.3L option makes 355 horsepower and 383lb-ft, while a mighty 6.2L boosts the horsepower to 420 hp and the torque to 460lb-ft.

And lastly, the available 3.0L Duramax® Turbo Diesel engine delivers the full 460lb-ft of torque while dropping the horsepower to 277 hp, providing excellent capability combined with admirable fuel economy.

Impressive Towing Capacity

As you'd expect from such high-end powertrains, the 2022 Sierra offers some eye-catching capability figures. For example, up to 1,018kg in the payload can be carried in the generously sized pickup bed, while a properly equipped Sierra can haul up to 5,352kg in trailer weight, a match for any rival in the half-ton market.

Advanced Capability Features

But the 2022 GMC Sierra is about much more than raw power under the hood. Your daily tasks will be streamlined by a range of advanced capability features that create a pickup that works as hard as you do.

In an industry first, the pickup bed is constructed from carbon fibre composite to give a durable finish stronger than steel at a fraction of the weight. In addition, access is made easy and safe thanks to the world's first six-function MultiPro™ tailgate, complete with integrated step, work surface, and inner load stops to keep payloads safely stowed.

And lastly, a smooth drive is ensured by the available Denali premium suspension with Adaptive Ride Control, plus optional hands-free driving with Super Cruise driver-assist technology.

New Exterior Features and Redesign

One look at Sierra's exterior is enough to know that it's a truck that means business. The rugged front grille hints at the power lying behind it and is made even more imposing with the Vader chrome finishing and GMC or Denali signature badging.

The redesigned LED headlamps and daytime running lights are given an extra high-end flourish with animated lighting sequences. At the same time, the impressive front end is finished off with unique Denali Ultimate fender badging on that all-new, luxurious trim level. And lastly, available 22" low-gloss black aluminum wheels deliver a stylish sports edge to complete the confident and upscale profile.

Which 2022 Sierra Trim is Right for You?

The 2022 GMC Sierra is available in eight trims, along with a range of options and packages to configure your drive to your needs. The Pro provides no-nonsense workhorse comfort and power at an affordable price at the entry level, while trims from the SLE upward introduce progressively more technology and comforts.

The ATX4 model delivers all the ruggedness and off-road upgrades you could wish for in a trail-friendly truck. At the same time, the all-new Denali Ultimate is possibly the most luxurious truck yet released onto the Canadian market.
